The Maine Mathematics and Science Teaching Excellence Collaborative, MMSTEC, is an exciting $4 million 5-year project that is funded by the National Science Foundation's Collaboratives for Excellence in Teacher Preparation program as of September 1, 2000. The project involves a collaboration between mathematics and science educators at the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA), University of Maine, University of Southern Maine, and University of Maine at Farmington. The Orono campus budget alone is over $1 million for the 5 years.  Additional budgetary benefits to the Orono campus will be provided from the MMSA project-administration budget of about $1 million. The MMSTEC Project is addressing the shortage of qualified K-12 teachers of mathematics and sciences, by addressing goals of teacher recruitment and support, and teacher improvement.

MMSTEC's recruitment site is EducateMe.info.
